This garden was several denuded acres of mown lawn when I arrived. ‘We just want it full of life- every kind of life’ my clients pleaded. And that was enough for me. We agreed that we would keep all the hard landscaping that a previous owner and their landscaper had installed. It was too much to rip out on a whim. All attention was focussed on planting. We created the garden in under two years. Excavating huge quantities of buried builders’ rubble from under the lawns and repaired the soil throughout. Now the gardens are organic, beautifully fertile, and productive. Large vegetable gardens, forage gardens, orchards and bees on the productive side and meadows, an arboretum, lakes, and informal formal gardens surround the house.
