“I don’t know what drives me to do this work, all I know is I can’t not do it.” JINNY BLOM
Jinny Blom set up her design studio in 2000 and has since been gathering an astonishing range of commissions in the UK, Europe, Africa, Middle East and the USA. Jinny is self-taught and doesn’t confine her creative output simply to the built landscape- more, she tailors her skills to suit the very varied commissions she receives ensuring each is given a unique and specific response. Jinny is an accomplished plants woman, having studied plant habitats meticulously over the years.
Her multidisciplinary team is made up of chartered landscape architects, interior architects, architectural assistants, product designers and artists. The team is collectively working on a number of significant commissions both public and private, gently and firmly pushing the boundaries of creativity and intelligent design. This sensitivity to places and people allows them to respond thoughtfully to commissions. The work tends to have a uniqueness that challenges a definable style. “Commissioning a landscape is no different to commissioning a work of art or a piece of music- it is a sensitive, erudite process, not a commodity” says Jinny.
Jinny has created well over 250 gardens and landscapes, public and private since 2000, many of which have won awards. In 2002 HRH the Prince of Wales chose Jinny to help co-design his Healing Garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
She went on to design two further Chelsea show gardens for Laurent-Perrier in 2006 and 2007, winning Gold. She returned in 2013 with Prince Harry’s first excursion into the show in the Centenary year of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The conceptual garden was designed to raise awareness of the landlocked country of Lesotho ravaged by the HIV epidemic.
Jinny was nominated Woman of the Year 2013 for her contribution to society through her work. She was also nominated Woman of the Year in 2002 and 2007.
The studio scrupulously protects their private client’s identities and is well known for this discretion.
Jinny is Artist in Residence for Chelsea & Westminster Hospital- the role is ongoing and the work she creates for the hospital forms part of academic research into benefits on health. Jinny Blom is a board member of the Therapeutic Landscapes Network in the USA. Brother Jinny Blom is a committee member and Outreach committee member of the Artworkers Guild. Jinny is a longstanding member of the Garden Media Guild.
The Thoughtful Gardener; 'An intelligent approach to garden design' is Jinny Blom's first book and was published in March 2017 by Jacqui Small Publishing.
The studio is in Clerkenwell, London.
