The Mill East Hanney

The Mill

A river runs through it

East Hanney

This garden has a very special status as it was probably my first ever paid commission. The garden is very simple and set against a mill leat in the corner of an old apple orchard. It was built entirely from materials that we found squirrelled away in Robert’s barn. We planted on a blisteringly hot May day – the day Tony Blair was elected for the first time! The planting has great texture and colours that blend easily and dramatically together. Most of the plants proved bullet proof which was just as well as I forgot about the need to install rabbit netting.
