This extraordinary and historically significant estate in the Scottish highlands offered fascinating opportunities to work with foresters, ecologists, eminent architects, gamekeepers and the wild and unpredictable landscape of the Highlands. The savage hills sweep down into the microcosm of the elaborate Victorian alpine garden and our reinterpreted ‘antigarden’, an experimental approach to non-interventionist gardening. Tending and renovating native plantations and the restoration of Sir John Stirling Maxwell's original forests were key. The heart of the estate is the extraordinary lodge by Moshe Safdie, arguably Scotland’s finest modern building.
