We are proud to have created the Sky Garden at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital for CW+ for the new State of the Art Intensive Care Unit. The experience of being in an ICU can be traumatic for patients – illness, extreme medical intervention and fear create a perfect storm of anxiety. A dedicated calm natural space would assist in rehabilitation, both emotionally and physically. We designed the space to have a gentle Modernist aesthetic, using natural materials such as wood and flax based lino. Different rooms within the garden offer opportunities for physiotherapy or rest or socialising. Abundant planting softens the air and sounds of the hospital, linking patients back to nature and the world outside.
